Lori Ashby, MA - Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)


Lori Ashby is a Senior Advisor in the Coverage and Analysis Group (CAG) in the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). CAG develops, interprets, communicates, and updates evidence-based national coverage policies. These policies help provide timely access to reasonable and necessary services and technologies to improve health outcomes for Medicare beneficiaries.

In her current role, Lori is responsible for a multitude of special projects, including leading the development of the Transitional Coverage for Emerging Technologies (TCET) pathway. Prior to that, Lori spent seven years serving in leadership positions in CAG’s Division of Policy and Evidence Review where she led the development of a number of initiatives and Medicare national coverage policies on a wide range of topics, including transcatheter mitral valve repair, left atrial appendage closure, leadless pacemakers, next generation sequencing, implantable cardiac defibrillators, and multiple preventive services topics. Lori first joined CAG in March 2010 and gained extensive experience on Medicare national and local coverage issues while serving as a Technical Advisor and as the CAG Special Assistant.

Lori has been with CMS since August 2000. Prior to coming to CAG, she spent five years in CMS’ Medicare Advantage Group where she worked on Medicare Advantage policy development and plan benefit package reviews. While at CMS, Lori has also held positions in CMS’ Office of Financial Management and Office of Strategic Operations and Regulatory Affairs.
